Activity Overview

The Ultrasound Basic Course – Kingston, MA (2026), led by Dawn Naylor, DNP, is a structured, hands-on educational program designed to introduce physicians and aesthetic providers to the principles and clinical application of facial ultrasound in aesthetic medicine.

This course combines foundational knowledge with supervised live practical training. Participants learn essential instruction in ultrasound physics, imaging principles, and core concepts to support hands-on learning.

The in-person training includes small-group, faculty-guided sessions focused on ultrasound scanning techniques, detailed facial anatomy, vascular identification, and injection safety. Emphasis is placed on improving accuracy in filler placement, identifying pre-existing filler, and reducing complications through real-time ultrasound guidance.

The practical component utilizes simulation models with artificial blood vessels, allowing participants to safely practice ultrasound-guided injection techniques and complication management in a controlled environment. No live patient injections are performed.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to confidently incorporate ultrasound into their clinical practice to enhance procedural safety, improve precision, and effectively assess and manage aesthetic complications

Target Audience

This activity is designed for licensed healthcare professionals involved in aesthetic medicine, including: Physicians (MD/DO) Nurse Practitioners (NP) Physician Assistants (PA) Registered Nurses (RN) Participants should have an interest in or current involvement with facial aesthetic procedures, including dermal fillers, and a desire to enhance safety and precision through the use of ultrasound imaging.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the fundamental principles of ultrasound physics and image acquisition as applied to facial aesthetic procedures.

  •  Demonstrate appropriate operation of ultrasound equipment for real-time facial imaging in clinical practice.

  • Identify and differentiate facial anatomical structures, including cutaneous layers and vascular anatomy, using ultrasound imaging.

  • Distinguish normal tissue from previously injected filler material on ultrasound examination.

  •  Apply ultrasound imaging to determine appropriate injection planes for dermal filler placement.

  • Recognize high-risk vascular structures and anatomic variations to minimize the risk of injection-related complications.

  • Assess and localize aesthetic complications using ultrasound to support clinical decision-making.

  • Perform ultrasound-guided injection techniques on simulation models in a controlled training environment.

  • Integrate ultrasound imaging into routine aesthetic practice to improve procedural accuracy, safety, and patient outcomes.

Criteria for Success

A certificate of completion will be awarded based on the participant's attendance and will be available upon completion of an online evaluation/claim credit form. The link to the form will be available at the end of the activity.
